Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre
Australia
The Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre precinct development is one of the largest projects underway in regional Victoria. It is being delivered as a public-private partnership, with the Plenary Conventions consortium contracted to finance, design, construct, and maintain the facility for 25 years in partnership with the Victorian Government and its funding partners, the Australian Government and City of Greater Geelong. The project is funded by all three levels of government through the Geelong City Deal, a collaborative partnership to transform Geelong and the Great Ocean Road by the Australian and Victorian Governments and local council.
In arguably the finest example of value capture in global PPP infrastructure markets in recent years, the PPP development has also attracted A$250 million in private sector investment in associated commercial development, comprising A$120 million investment to deliver Geelong’s largest hotel – a 200-room Crowne Plaza hotel – and a further A$130 million for commercial spaces within a mixed-use development.
The precinct development represents a remarkable opportunity for Geelong and the greater region to elevate its status as a leading regional city and a prime destination for tourism, business events, and retail experiences.
The project will bring in new visitors, boost tourism economies, and generate valuable local job opportunities, contributing to the prosperity of Greater Geelong.
Plenary Conventions is working with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners from Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, in a co-design partnership approach, that will celebrate Geelong’s rich cultural heritage through the precinct’s development.
