Caroline Lytton

IPFA Board Member & Head of EMEA Sustainability Solutions , SMBC

Caroline joined SMBC in 2007 and in 2013 was appointed Head of Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals – Execution Team, managing a multi-disciplinary team working across the natural resources value chain. In 2019, Caroline took the position of EMEA Head of Power & Renewables project finance, running a loan book of over USD 8 billion spanning the renewable and conventional energy sector, as well as utilities and energy transition assets.


In July 2023, Caroline was appointed Head of the Sustainable Finance Unit within the International & Structured Finance Department and in September 2024 she transitioned to the cross-product role of EMEA Head of Sustainability Solutions, driving business and product development across the sustainable finance space. Caroline is particularly interested in synergistic solutions towards net zero, in terms of technology linkages as well as the interactions between risk allocation and financing structures.


Caroline graduated from the University of Oxford with an MSc in Physics, with Honours, in 2003. She currently sits on the board of the International Project Finance Association and Pexapark’s Advisory Council.
